Those annoyin advertising magnets made presentable!

I KNOW I'm not the only one that hoards these things, right? I have the ugliest fridge on the planet. We managed to piece together stainless appliances when we bought the house. We got the stove, microwave and Dishwasher all for $525 from craigslist (our area is #1 in foreclosures and people were stripping everything out of their homes) I was even GIVEN a $1900 stainless Kenmore Fridge but it needs a compressor - which by luck - happens to take the exact same one that is in the ugly Kenmore in these pics except we don't know how to exchange the two out and refuse to pay a $400 service call so my pretty stainless fridge awaits in the garage! Anywho...this is why I hoard magnets. To cover my ugly fridge. Don't worry no magnets will ever touch the stainless. I will just have to make an "art wall" for her projects later.

So I took all these off the fridge and out of the junk drawer (cause, again, NOT the only one that has a junk drawer, right?- those are a right of passage passed down generations)

I took some scrapbook paper (had some frilly girly crappy looking paper left - not my 1st choice but it will do to show you what I did)

Turn the magnet over and trace onto the backside of the scrapbook paper, cut it out and mod podge it to the magnet. Now these are crappy cheap magnets that come off the front of the phone book or from the area pizza restaurants and in my case the wing joint up the street.
You will need to let it dry, it may start to curl up but once dry they are very pliable and you can bend them back into shape. They aren't strong enough to hold much more embellishment than the mod podge and paper but you can certainly stamp an initial onto the paper or maybe some vinyl lettering but I wouldn't go overboard unless your magnet is thick.

Now you can see which one "use" to be a pizza magnet but these make the magnets fun and you don't have to have advertisements forced down your throat every time you open the fridge.

(insert a copyright smiley here or in her case a pudding smeared thumb print). Don't worry I only made three in this paper. I want to find some different styles when I go back to Joanns. i think a thicker paper would work better too, you can kinda see thru these.

My First Sewing Machine...SERIOUSLY

Search & Win

Ok, seriously. I know what y'all are thinking "how can she call herself a crafter/DIY'er when she NEVER had a sewing machine. BUDGET.BUSTER Plain and simple. One income, one toddler! It was just never on my high priority list...until we bought this house - which made it even more of a budget.buster than ever! NOW thanks to Freecycle I am the proud new owner of this ancient new to me beauty! I placed my wanted ad on there and within a few hours I had this sweet lady respond with something like "I think I still have an old one in the closet" I ran right over. SCORE!!!!!

I'm so proud of my new sewing space...the spare bedroom closet. So much so I took the hanger wire shelf thingy down and put a book case in there and a light.

I made my first project. Click for the tute.

I have been DYING to make this, even saved the link in my toolbar so I could see it everyday.

First, the glass bead charm. Made with scrapbook paper and diamond glaze (love that stuff)

Then THIS!!! My 1st fabric keychain ( I know- I'm late with this blogtastic project but they are so darn cute)

I will be attaching the charm when my Amazon order gets in with my jump rings that I bought and paid for with my giftcards from SWAGBUCKS!!!

Isn't she pretty? I am sooo proud. Still need some practice for a straight stitch and to download the manual so I can use all her stitches...it only took me 3 hours to learn to thread her LOL!
