Life is a....(and a giveaway)

Wanna win this? Like vintage stuff?

GO HERE to win this. LOVE her blog.

Lot of hard work...
This prertty table was a freebie and I Love her bones.
so did the dog that chewed her corners
Not really having a place for another table on the floor my mind went to work on what to do with it.

I disassembled it. How lovely is all this detail? Gorgeous

I had to hire a helper because you know...life is hard work!

We added wood filler to the dog chewed corner

Sanded it's picture frame top

Painted it

Then we went into overload project anxiety. Quick, think of something, anything~

Knocked off the extra side pieces

Renamed my epoxy, cause I can glue with the best of'em

I took a left over piece of shelf from a previous dismantle and glued it to the pretty sideboards of the dismantled table

I glued, screwed, and painted with care

I "embraced" the project probably a little more than I should of or needed to. I added small L brackets to the underside where the shelf met the pretty wood then used larger L brackets to secure to the back and the wall so it wouldnt lean down when I hung it up. My little helper learned a few choice words in this process as she picked up screws that kept flinging out from under the drill. Not only will she be wearing safety goggles next time but ear muffs as well

Above the shelf I added her picture but wanted it to look like it wasn't "hanging" more propped on the shelf but still secure so I hung it like normal then stuck an empty travel diaper wipe case behind the picture to give it that "propped" look

And here she is. A tiny shelf made with remnants of a table that would have ended up in the trash. I love that it looks like a tiny table or bench. I made TWO! I have yet to decide where to put the other or the framed top from above but rest assured you will see it when I am done.

BENCH!

at least here lately. All of my projects have been repurposing things to benches.

I saw this idea here
I couldn't get over how cool this was so I tried it. I must say I am BEGGING Santa for some power tools because doing this with a hand saw was painful!

This beauty was given to me by our babysitter. An odd man out but too pretty to discard. It was dismantled into SEVERAL different projects.

Notice the top looks like a frame. It came off and will soon be wall art. The pretty decorative side panels, yep, dismantled.

This had got to be the most hideous pair of chairs I have ever seen - But FREE. I'm such a sucker! Notice the 1970's carpet fabric. I think the filling was outlawed in the 80's I'm pretty sure it was asbestos or something in that family. I started to itch instantly and had to run inside and shower.

Notice the table top? That's from the table above.

I finally managed to get the seats off.

Paint them black and attach one of the pretty side pieces of the table.

Side note - *HATES Sherwin William paint - just saying. It's wayyyy too thick

Both pretty pieces attached

Went to Home Depot and had some MDF cut to common size. I painted thinking I was just going to leave it squared but afterwards hated it so I began the pain staking task of hand sawing to match the seats I took off.

Here "HE" is all nestled in the man room. It was a surprise for my hubby. I am in the process of making a cushion for it in Steeler fabric and I added the pretty detail on purpose, so one day I could take it apart and repaint to have some pretty chairs for another room.

The Steelers decals are actually 4x6 prints from pictures I googled. I had them printed at CVS since I have 60 free 4x6's so the total cost of this project - $12.50 the cost of the Sherwin Williams sample quarts ($5) and the MDF ($7.50).

Yes, Life is a Bench...then you SIT!

I love both projects! I hope you get your power tools for Christmas...if not, try garage sales and flea markets.

Thanks Mary. I JUST found a power saw at a garage sale one street over for $5 I about cried. The cheap ones at Walmart are $30 and have bad reviews and i was getting frustrated thinking I was going to have to pay $60 or more. I had a handfull of girly stuff ready to pay the guy and then I saw the saw and about dropped everything just for the saw.

Happy Thanksgiving.

You are a wicked creative (and brave) DIY'er! Love what you did, and I sooo relate with wanting some power tools. Hubby and I spent a couple hours just cutting 8 miters with a dull saw. Bleck.

Thanks for linking up!
